Clear-Braces

Braces for adults are on the up

I remember having braces as a kid and absolutely hating them, so much so that when they broke I never had them repaired and put back on. For years I wish that I had because I would always catch myself looking in the mirror at how my teeth weren’t perfectly straight. When you’re young you really don’t understand the value of how important it is to take care of your teeth and get all the work done then and there.

As I grew up I thought that I would never get braces and I would just keep my teeth the way they are. In my mind braces were for kids and kids only! My mind soon changed as the years went by, I started noticing an increasing number of adults with braces on. I started to do a little research and learnt how braces for adults was increasing year on year. Gone was the stigma with the look of braces because the end result was going to be worth it.

So I took the plunge and booked an appointment with an orthodontist to find out my options. Within a few weeks I was back into the surgery to have my braces fitted, the road to straight teeth had begun!

I really wanted to write this post to try and inspire others not to be too shy and to go ahead get that perfect smile that they had always wanted. So here’s what I’ve learnt on my braces journey.

Just Do It

It’s time to stop procrastinating and just do it, book the appointment with the orthodontist and get the ball rolling. I say this from experience because I wish I had started this whole journey years ago, if I had my teeth would already be fixed.

Eyes On The Prize

This is important because at first I was shy to smile and show people I had braces, but just embrace it. At the end of the day nobody actually cares if you have braces or not. What you always need to remember that at the end of your journey you will be so confident smiling with your new smile.

 Shop Around

There are so many options out there these days, this makes shopping around for the best deal absolutely essential. I was able to find a great deal by asking friends and family their opinions, plus not just going with the first orthodontist I spoke to.

About adult braces in Scotland

Adult braces in Scotland are becoming increasingly popular. The technology available to dentists is always improving and so is the price. I would recumbent Beam Orthodontics based on my past experiences because they always do such an amazing job.

The Power and Psychology of Colour that Influences Buying

colour

Colours are extremely powerful in provoking emotions deep within the person seeing them and this is something that is completely natural and has been a common theme in the animal kingdom since the existence of life, for example the male peacock uses its bright colours to attract a mate and impress potential mates. The modern day equivalent to this in the human world is using colours to sell products and this is something that companies take very seriously. Read on to find out a little bit more about the psychology of colours and the impact that they have on purchasing.

Colours convey messages

Brands choose their colours very carefully, because they know that they are important because they need to be clear, bold, beautiful and of course, recognisable. Companies use colours in ultra strict and consistent ways to build their brands, because it doesn’t matter if your company sells stylus pens or balloons, consist use of colour is of the utmost importance in influencing customers and potential customers to buy. If they get this wrong they risk losing customers by not being memorable or by putting them off.

Do colours actually sell

In the infographic I have included above it would seem that colours actually play a huge part in our purchasing decisions, particularly given that 90% of people subconsciously judge based on colour alone and also that people judge products within the first 90 seconds. Therefore colour plays a huge role in pushing the customer to buy a product, particularly because the colour is something must immediately attract and please the customer, particularly given the very short 90 seconds for the customer to make their ultimate decision.

Colours have different meanings

It is well know that colours have different meanings around the world, and this ties into the way that things are branded and marketed in various places. Good examples of this are red in Germany (bad luck), yellow in France (infidelity) and blue in Sweden (masculinity). Let’s look at Sweden, which is the home of the world famous brand Ikea. The colour of the Ikea logo is naturally yellow and blue (the national colours of Sweden and its flag), which presents a very strong contrast that is visually pleasing. This bold contrast can also be tied into the fact that blue is a strongly masculine in Sweden and can be seen to be very attractive.

How Supply Chain Managers Can Benefit Small Companies

In order for small companies to stay competitive they have to offer goods that are of a superior quality, at the lowest possible price. Due to this it is essential to minimise the cost of production, the way to make this possible is through good supply chain management. It is up to the managers to make sure that production costs are kept low so that the savings can eventually be passed forward to the customer. An effective way to quickly implement supply chain management is to hire supply chain consultants, doing this will effectively and swiftly streamline your practices.

supply-chain-management

So what are the benefits of good supply chain management? Here we have listed 3 of the top reasons to implement them in your business.

Reduce your costs

One of the key areas that involves supply chain management is highlighting the processes you implement that increase costs without actually adding value to the end product. Such processes are only detrimental to your company and do not add value, they should be removed wherever and whenever possible.

Increase output

When a company employs a good level of supply chain management they are able to form close working relationships with both supplier and consumers, this has the knock on effect of making sure that orders are completed swiftly. We all know that any company that is effective with its timeliness will be able to increase its customer base, this will then grow the company as output and sales increase.

Increase profits

This is why all companies are here – to make profits! The best and most effective way to make sure that profits increase is to keep costs at the lowest rate possible. The only real way to make this dream a reality is to employ supply chain management.

If you are not already implementing a good level of supply chain management in your small company then you need to start today. You will instantly see the benefits and be able to pass those new found savings on to the consumer.

The Ultimate Guide To Employing The Best Team For Your Business

Screen Shot 2015-02-18 at 9.00.52 PM

Photographer link

Everyone knows a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. So, it’s vital that you perform a lot of research before employing team members for your new business. Rushing into things too quickly could result in you making mistakes. The last thing you want is staff members with no motivation who consistently complete poor work. With that in mind, we thought you could do with a basic guide that covers every aspect of the employment process. We’re not going to blind you with jargon and silly terminology. You’re going to get the best advice, explained to you in layman’s terms. We can’t say fairer than that now, can we?

Write a killer job advertisement –

The way in which you describe the jobs on offer within your business could make a huge difference to the response you receive. Using boring language and lots of terms most people won’t understand is a recipe for disaster. You want to attract the most intelligent and enthusiastic people possible for the best results. To do that, you must spend time creating the ideal tone and message. Contrary to popular belief, there is nothing wrong with using an element of humor. In fact, that could help you to attract people who will be fun to work with.

Look for people with the right skills and training –

Paying to educate your team and give them the best training after they’ve signed a contract could become very expensive. As your business is quite new, you could do without that extra cost. So, it’s wise to seek out people who already have the skills you require. Maybe one of your candidates might have PR and marketing qualifications? Or perhaps you want someone who has already been through decoupled molding training? It all depends on the nature of your company, and the tasks you want them to perform.

Use specialist online job boards –

In the past, advertising in your local job center was enough to find at least some decent workers. However, that is no longer the case. Due to governments insisting that benefits claimants apply for a certain amount of positions each week, you will receive lots of applications. Most of them will come from people who have no interest in working for your firm. Considering that, you should search for specialist online job boards that focus on your industry. At the very least, you will know that anyone who submits an application is computer savvy.

Plan an interesting interview –

The way in which you interview your candidates is of paramount importance. Not only do you need to learn about previous skills and experience, but it’s also wise to learn about personalities. You don’t want people working for you who are going to be aggressive or disobedient. You need people who are enthusiastic about working for your brand, and who are more than willing to go the extra mile.

We hope you are now in a better position to ensure you never offer a job to the wrong candidate. Good luck for the future. We can’t wait to see how your company progresses over the next few years. Just don’t forget the people who helped to make your life easier!

Advantages and Disadvantages of Buying An Existing Business

As it has in many areas of modern life, the Internet has been a game-changer for entrepreneurs looking to buy existing businesses. Portal websites such as Commercialview.com.au offer one-stop commercial property shopping, with all the prices and locations of businesses up for sale. Although due diligence is still needed before buying someone else’s enterprise and making it your own, these portal sites make the beginning of the process easier than it has ever been before.

Screen Shot 2013-09-27 at 8.13.47 PM
It’s easy to take the good…
Only you know how much you’re willing to invest in an existing business. Other than the asking price, however, there are other important factors that you will need to know about any place you are interested in buying and owning for yourself. Are there skilled existing employees that you might like to keep on? Keep an eye out for those individuals who can significantly reduce your hiring and training costs. Remember that experienced employees may be able to show you the ropes on some of the more common pitfalls and opportunities presented at their level.

Unless the business you’re looking to purchase is becoming insolvent due to lack of customers, another nice aspect of buying an existing commercial venture is that many people will already know about your business, meaning that a lot of the work of introducing yourself to a community doesn’t need to be done.

Finally, since there is already a customer base, you will most likely have immediate cash coming into the business. This means that less capital has to be squirreled away before opening shop. It also means that some of the capital you do have saved up may be used to expand that customer base.

But can you take the bad?
Unfortunately, there is a down side to almost every advantage in buying an existing business. For example, although inheriting existing employees may be helpful in important ways, in other ways, it may work counter to your plans. It’s easy for long-time staff to become jaded, bored or otherwise uninterested in your business now, except as a supplier of a pay-check. You will have to expend effort to weed out negative employees and cultivate positive ones.

As far as not needing to introduce yourself to customers, think about whether that’s really a positive thing. Did the former owner have a bad reputation in the community? It could be that location was the only thing that kept the business afloat, and that advantage can be lost in the time it takes a competitor to put out their shingle. Starting a good reputation from scratch may be easier than erasing customers’ memories of a bad reputation.

Not needing a lot of capital to open shop is a definite relief, but the fact that the space has been in use may mean heavier maintenance costs down the line. Depending on the type of operation you’ve purchased, machinery may need to be refurbished or replaced. For example, a bakery without its industrial-strength mixers isn’t going to be able to operate for very long. This is one area in which is it vitally important for prospective buyers of an existing commercial space to do some research, even if it means calling in an expert in the field to examine the physical plant before making an offer.

A leap of faith
No existing business is going to be perfect. Some time spent on a website portal such as Commercialview.com.au, however, can alert you to the prices and locations of commercial spaces for sale that may prove too good to ignore. That said, once you have your list of potential businesses to buy, you might want to stop in first as a customer. You may be able to get the shopkeeper talking in ways he wouldn’t talk to a possible buyer. There’s no need to be dishonest – just let the owner do most of the talking.

Ultimately, no matter how much information you gather and analyse, buying an existing commercial enterprise does take a leap of faith. How big that leap might be, however, does depend on what you’ve taken the time to learn.

Understanding and Getting Started Trading Forex

Trillions of dollars are exchanged on a daily basis in the Foreign Exchange Currency Market (FOREX). Governments, banks and businesses trade currencies with one another for various reasons, but all of them seek to do so in a way that is to their greatest advantage.

forex trading

In the late 1990s, the currency exchange market was opened to individual investors in a process known as retail forex trading. Estimates vary, but it is thought that retail trading accounts for $50-100 billion in daily volume.

Retail traders use the Internet along with trading software and two types of forex broker to trade using margin. The term margin simply means that the trader must risk only a small percentage of the trade size in order to control a much larger block of currency. Forex brokers offer traders the ability to buy or sell currency pairs.

Using the largest currency pair in terms of daily volume, the EUR/USD, Australian brokers like Thinkforex match traders who think that the euro will increase in value compared to the dollar with traders who think the euro will decrease in value compared to the dollar.

Another type of broker is known as the market maker, which involves the brokers automatically taking the opposite side of a currency transaction to that of their customer. This may sound contradictory, as though the broker is working against the customer, but consider this example. Customer A wants to buy a currency pair, so the broker sells it to that customer. Customer B wants to sell the same currency pair, so the broker will buy it from that customer. It is the fact that some customers will want to buy and others will want to sell that makes it possible for the market to function. Without buyers and sellers, there would be no forex market.

Getting Started Trading Forex

Trading currency is a quite simple business to establish. All it takes is a computer or other Internet capable device, a broker, trading software and funds with which to speculate on future currency prices.

Learning to Trade Forex

Brokers and financial education providers offer a comprehensive set of learning resources for both new and experienced traders. Brokers do this for two reasons. One is to attract new customers. The other is to help those customers become successful so that they can continue to trade. This is because the broker earns a fee on every trade, regardless of whether or not that trade is profitable. Competition between brokers is so intense that the fee is a very small percentage of the trade, so the broker needs a lot of traders and preferably traders who will do a large volume of trades.

Training can take the form of printed books, e-books, DVDs and live or archived webinars that permit the learner to participate according to their schedule. Much of the training resources forex brokers offer is free of cost or obligation.

Third party financial educators sometimes charge for their training programs, but many offer free trials so that potential customers can determine the value prior to making any financial commitment.

Practicing Forex Trading

All forex brokers offer what are known as demo accounts. Forex trading is one of the few businesses where you get to practice before risking any money. This is the best way to learn forex math, observe what a typical day in the market is like and to practice different trading strategies to find the one or ones that are best suited to any particular individual person. It also is an exceptional opportunity to learn how to operate different trading software, so that when real trading commences, there will be no unpleasant surprises regarding what happens when certain commands are given. Many experienced traders consider demo accounts so valuable that they will maintain one or more even after they are trading with real money.

Retail forex trading offers an ideal opportunity for a home-based business as a source of either a primary or supplemental income. There are risks involved, but taking time to appreciate those risks and learning to manage them is simply a matter of exploring thoroughly before you risk any actual money.

electricians

The world’s most dangerous jobs

Workplace hazards are an everyday risk – no doubt your employer insists that any accidents are logged, there’s a copy of the The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 in the staffroom and there are plasters available in the first aid box under the kitchen sink.

But for some brave folks a plaster and an accident book aren’t going to cut it; a will and a life insurance policy might be more appropriate! Some jobs are just plain dangerous, and unfortunately someone’s got to do them. I’m just glad it’s not me. Here’s a rundown of some of the most dangerous jobs in the world that I won’t be applying for any time soon:

electricians

Drivers

Driving jobs of all kinds are notorious danger zones. Some of the most common work based fatalities are the unhappy lot of truck drivers and refuse collectors. Driving big vehicles which cause a lot of damage when the driver loses control is perhaps unsurprisingly a recipe for disaster. It’s important drivers take regular breaks and keep the vehicle cool (read more tips here).

Another of the world’s most dangerous jobs is that of the friendly cab driver. Here it’s an odds game – when you clock up that many hours behind the wheel the chances of an accident really start to increase, and driving long shifts and late nights doesn’t help either. So next time you hail a cab make sure the driver is looking well rested and alert!
Electricians

When the power goes out down your entire street it can be pretty inconvenient. You can’t boil the kettle, you’ve missed EastEnders and it turns out you’ve got no idea where the batteries are for the torch you’ve been keeping handy for just this occasion. But imagine being one of the men and women whose job it is to fix a major power outage. Serious electric shocks from repairing big power lines are a genuine risk which puts electrician very high on the list of dangerous jobs.
Pilots and flight engineers

Sure, you get a lot of kudos when you show up at a bar wearing a pilot’s uniform; but flying planes thousands of feet in the air comes with its own risks and responsibilities. Pilots and flight engineers have some of the most dangerous jobs in the world and unlike their passengers they don’t even get a holiday out of it. Well, actually commercial pilots do get a lot of holidays but they’ve earned it considering the danger they put themselves in to open up the skies to the rest of us.
Fishermen and women

You might not have thought it, but the big winner (if you can call it that) for the world’s most dangerous job is the lowly fisherman/woman! Without them you wouldn’t have fish fingers, salmon fillets or tuna bakes – but more fishermen and women die every year than people in any other profession. The real kicker is that fishing is the least well paid occupation on the list, and it’s the one which puts workers at the most at risk.

So next time you go out for fish and chips take a second to think of the people that risked their life to get that delicious dinner on your plate.

5 Alternatives to a “Regular Job” After College

After donning the cap and gown, collecting your diploma and waving goodbye to the college years, it’s time to stare down the path called “real adult life.” But contrary to what many people say, the college years are by no means necessarily the best years of your life! Whether you’re looking for accounting or insurance jobs, positions in writing or music or still just figuring it all out, here are 5 ideas to keep your options open after graduation:

Teach English Abroad If you’ve been stuck job searching for awhile, you might feel like the skills you gained in university just aren’t that marketable. But surprise! Your native skills are hugely marketable abroad! Being a native English speaker is a huge advantage in the global marketplace, and becoming TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)- Certified will put you in a great position to find jobs in schools or private language academies in nearly any country you might want to live.

Au Pair If you’d like to experience living in another culture firsthand and you enjoy children, au pairing could be a perfect option. Generally, au pairs live with a family and are expected to care for the children for a pre-determined amount of hours per day, usually before and after school and sometimes on weekends. You’ll have the daytimes free to take language courses or do whatever you like, and if the family enjoys traveling they’ll bring you along on holiday.

wwoof

Volunteer Work Abroad There are many great organizations out there that help you find volunteer work in exchange for food and accommodation. WWOOF (www.wwoof.org) and Workaway (www.workaway.info) are two such organizations- workers usually work 4-6 hours per day, 5 days per week in exchange for board, in thousands of locations around the world. It’s perfect for those with an adventurous spirit and desire to learn new skills and make new connections around the globe.

 intern

Work for Free After all that time, effort and money spent earning your degree it might be hard to stomach the idea of working for free- but some of the best companies might not have openings right away, and offering to work for free can get you into the door. Set it up so that you work 1-3 months for free, gaining experience, and then transition into a paid position if you are a satisfactory worker.

Create Your Own Job We are so lucky to live in a day and age with such an abundance of opportunities to earn a living creatively and on our own terms (“Four Hour Workweek”, anyone?!) Sit down and brainstorm how you would like to spend your days if money were no object… then set out to create your dream career. Starting a business online requires low overhead costs and with the right amount of dedication and skill you could be working to live- and not visa versa.

Why You Should Quit Your Job and Follow Your Passions

If you followed the path well-traveled through high school and university, dutifully studying for and receiving your degree, pushing through the job hunt then finally acquiring a stable (if not exciting) career position guaranteed to set you up through retirement- you’re not alone. It’s a path perfectly acceptable and encouraged by society- but allow me to encourage you here to think differently, if only for a moment.

bridge

Imagine that money were no object, and you had your days to spend at your leisure. How would you spend your time? What would you pursue? Would you spend your days fixing old cars, stringing guitars, or riding horses? Would you learn about child psychology, lock yourself in a library with piles of classic literature or spend hours in an observatory looking at the stars? Learn Italian, take a Thai cooking class, or spend time in nature? Imagine that your passions were all that mattered, that your life was so precious that every minute you had on this planet was spent doing something you loved, something to make yourself better and leave something better on this earth. Just imagine it.

stones

Imagine that instead of stress and apathy, you felt energy and an intrinsic motivation to improve and succeed at your work, whatever that may be. Imagine that collaboration and creativity flowed like a river, as people engaged in projects of their own choosing and passion. Imagine that a simple leap of faith could completely divert your life from a joyless cubicle existence to waking everyday with a purpose and mission.

This isn’t theoretical. This can, and should be your life- and it begins with one of the greatest challenges you’ll face: quitting something secure in pursuit of something sacred.

And while you’ll find plenty of resources available out there for the specific logistics of how to transition your life, bulleted points outlining the benefits and drawbacks of seeking your own fortune- I’d argue that it’s much, much simpler than all that. Close the books, close your eyes, and look within yourself.

cooking

Follow your bliss. If your current job brings you joy, then follow it. If it doesn’t, then decide what lights your fire and go chase it down- yes, it involves a risk- but the risk of not chasing that passion is far, far greater… the risk of living your entire life without realizing your true potential, of living an existence defined by a society outside of yourself- without ever even questioning why it’s so important to follow in this way.

Imagine that when you do finally question the status quo, you realize that you have within you already everything you need to change your life, and that there’s not a reason in the world not to. Because I promise you: quitting your job is scary. It’s freeing, thrilling, and terrifying all at the same time. But I can also promise you that you’ll never know what your life can be if you don’t leap off the edge with passion and faith driving you. “Do what you love, and the money will follow” goes the adage- and I’d completely agree- but realize that while money comes and goes, your life is precious and here and now, and you are the only one who can choose true fulfillment over the daily grind.
